Hanimex is FujiFilm Australia.
Over the past few years they have supported their online photo
sharing site Fujicolor.com.au. The site allows members to
store and share their photos online. The technology that makes
it possible to share these photos online is called Image Manager.
Image Manager is also used in photo labs and can be used by
consumers at home to send their photos to FujiFilm labs for
photo-processing.
Challenge:
Upgrades were being made to the Image Manager application
used by the Fujicolor.com.au site and CDs were going to distributed
by Hanimex to consumers featuring the Image Manager software.
The site needed to be upgraded from its current state to incorporate
the changes as well as enhance the usability. The technology
is complicated but the users didn't need to be burdened with
it, their experience should be fun, they should be able to
share photos with friends and family, be able to upload their
photos for processing and send prints anywhere in the world.
When the software was upgraded the lab that processes the
photo prints needed a new users manual. The drawback to typical
technical manuals is that they are written from a technical
point of view and not the point of view of the person accessing
the application.

Solution:
UX Designs (1) engaged existing and potential end uses of
the Fujicolor.com.au in a usability tests to discover their
pain points are create a solution that was more appealing.
The users were not going to read through the directions, they
wanted the site to be intuitive, fast and easy to use. Too
much technology was clogging their process. They didn't need
or understand many of the functions and wanted to include
editing functions. The feedback was incorporated and the site
is much friendlier today.
In addition to the site redesign, a new technical users manual
was created. It was written by UX Designs (2) with the help
of the actual photo technicians using the software.
