| Amgen’s Neupogen® is
prescribed to reduce the incidence of infection in cancer
patients with nonmyeloid malignancies. The drug is a recombinant
(genetically engineered) protein that stimulates the production
of infection-fighting white blood cells, called neutrophils,
which are depleted by cytotoxic chemotherapy.
Challenge:
Amgen enlisted UX to assist with Neupogen.com, a resource
for both patients and doctors. First, Amgen wanted to inform
patients how Neupogen would affect their body, as it worked
to assist them during their fight against cancer. They needed
to understand the process of chemotherapy and where they were
within it. It was important for doctors to also know how Neupogen
would affect their patients’ bodies and react with other
drugs.

Solution:
For patients, UX helped the client assemble a storybook-style
online experience to promote ease of use and accessibility
of content. For doctors, who have little time for finding
needed information, a matrix- approach IA was implemented,
and the subjects and nomenclature were clear in both the navigation
and on the page.
